Geometric roguelike puzzle game for PC
Drop Duchy is a premium puzzle PC game by developer Sleepy Mill Studio. It is a geometric puzzler set during the Middle Ages that features roguelike mechanics. In it, players will be creating a kingdom from the ground up using random blocks, considering placement and synergies with adjacent pieces on the board.
Comparable to games like Dorfromantik or TerraScape, Drop Duchy places great emphasis on strategic block placement and how they react with other pieces on the board. A demo version is available to newcomers to let them experience the gameplay first-hand before its official release, planned for April 2025.
Block kingdom
In a nutshell, Drop Duchy is a medieval-themed block puzzler featuring gameplay akin to that of classic Tetris but with an interesting twist. Instead of simply clearing the board row-by-row, you will be building a kingdom from them. This premise introduces strategy into the mix since you need to be more wary of where you'll place falling pieces on the board.
Drop Duchy takes things one step further as you also need to be aware of different reactions and synergies like placing farms near forests and river blocks will yield more resources. Build a deck of over 100 unique cards to help you build the best kingdom you can. There are also more than 100 missions to take across three factions, with persistent meta-progression bonuses.
The resources you collect will go into helping build an army to defend your kingdom from outside threats or invading other territories to expand your own. Successful battles will unlock new paths toward making a siege on the enemy fortress. Now, as of this writing, Drop Ducky is not yet available and there are still a few months left before its release.
A unique and engaging twist
In conclusion, Drop Duchy takes the tried and tested Tetris-like formula and injects its unique twist to create something different and interesting. The game forces you to be more tactical and deliberate with your actions as every move you make will have lasting effects throughout your run. It's an engaging and satisfying gameplay loop when things go as planned. Go check it out and see for yourself.
